I kind of liked it better before the black borders, but they are designed to add to the 3D illusion, and the fabric was already purchased.
It's a pretty big quilt...85" by 106".
I have had my backing fabric for awhile - found on sale online. It's a good match and I bought plenty of it. That's the big roll of fabric below...seven yards!
The half square triangles are trimmings from sewing the quilt blocks. I have been sewing them together as I went along. There are enough that I might put a row of them where the backing pieces join.
So, there is still that to do before I can pin baste and start quilting.
Also trying to decide on batting. I have an all cotton kind and also an 80% cotton 20% poly kind.
I might check the price on a wool batting too...since this is for the Sasquatch, who keeps his house very cool in winter.
Your quilt is fantastic! I love the black border. It really does look 3D. I hope you are going to enter it in a show before you give it away.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Marti!
DeleteThe fabrics you chose really enhance the stone-wall idea. Well done!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Nann! The fabric is all Stonehenge. It's a good quality fabric and a pleasure to work with.
DeleteTurned out beautiful Darla and by all means you should enter it in the State Fair. I'm sure it would take a reward. Loving the black border but loving the backing fabric too...good choices.....Bring and show us at class!!! Diane K
ReplyDeleteThanks for the nice compliments, Diane. I will bring it to show at Bees if I don't finish and give to son before then.
DeleteWow, what a striking quilt! Congrats on the finish.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Jennifer!
