January...winter weather time

We had a mix of winter weather this month. The weather forecasters gave us plenty of warning...predicting the heavy snowstorm days before it rolled in.

The Sasquatch reminded me to have flashlight batteries charged and have things ready in case the power went out.

The snow arrived. It snowed all day.

The  next day we woke up to about 10 to 12 inches of snow on the ground. The largest snowfall since 2018 (or that's what I heard).

A few broken limbs around the property. Snow had turned to freezing rain overnight and weighed them down.

Gloomy skies turns everything colorless.

More fallen limbs. That upper screen was already missing but the branch did tear loose that bottom screen.  I'm thinking I might just remove all the screens from the screen porch. Less upkeep and we don't have much of a problem with bugs and flies here anyway.

Power stayed on except for a brief blip. Internet had a short outage but back in service quickly.

Not sure if the power blip had anything to do with it...but my microwave oven died a sparky, smoking death.
It happened when I had it running. I got it off the shelf and unplugged quickly.

I went online and ordered a new microwave but it was days before they could deliver it. The driveway was covered with snow.  Finally a delivery driver parked on the street and carried that heavy bulky box up to the porch.

Very happy to be able to microwave again but I could tell the new oven wasn't running right. The Sasquatch took a look at everything and finally replaced the breaker.

Also while he was here he brought his vacuum sealer and portioned out a giant bulk bag of catfood I'd bought.

He keeps telling me that I should get a vacuum sealer but I like it better when he bring his over (hee hee!).

I finished the embroidered mitten piece and pulled out some fabrics to possibly use with it for a hanging or a spread. That's as far as I got. I'm just not sure I want to spend time on it. I'd rather work on something I like better.

We had a few days of extreme cold...then more snow a few days later.

Puss and I just lazed around on the couch, semi-hibernating.

Weather cleared enough by the time our quilt group meeting day rolled around.

A few of us have been working on a quilt as an appreciation gift to our book club leader.
Isolde and Jan found this pattern that features books and cats (leader has 5 cats).
It's really going to be cute and I'll show it again when it's finished.

We are also working on a donation quilt...which doesn't seem to look as pretty as we had hoped.  Hopefully it will improve when it's put together. I'll show photos of that too.

So I'm ready for February. We always seem to have a couple of mild sunshine-y days in February...reminding us that spring is just around the corner.
