what I am working on

"Scrappy Mountain Majesties" is a free pattern on Bonnie Hunter's website. She has a great tutorial there with the pattern, but here is the general idea.

Cut diagonally, two 8 1/2 inch squares...a light and a dark. Sew together to make half square triangle blocks.

Place one of these blocks face down on top of the other, lights facing darks. Cut 4 two inch strips, cutting through both blocks at once.

Lift the top strips off and turn them face up. Rearrange the strips to look like this.

You can sew 4 strips together to mix and match with other 4 strip units, or sew all 8 strips together for a large rectangular "mountain" block.

Here is how they look in a scrappy combination. Looks like I will be needing 9 or 10 rows of them. Will probably add some reds to perk it up a bit.
These are quick to sew since there is no seam matching. Lots of ironing between steps though.

No-Bake Cookies

These old favorites were dessert on Sunday after dinner.  The ones that  were left over were baggied up and sent home with the boys.

BUT then....I kept thinking about them ( the cookies-not the boys). Wishing I had saved a few for myself.
Finally, I gave in and went to the kitchen to make another half of a batch. You may think I showed a little will power by making only  half a batch...but the truth is that I only had enough oatmeal to make a half.
Look how small they are! Surely not many calories there ! Plus, they contain oatmeal, milk and peanut butter. That's 3 of the food groups!

No Bake Chocolate Oatmeal Cookies

2 cups sugar
2 T cocoa
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup milk
1 t. vanilla extract
1/2 cup peanut butter
3 cups minute oats

In a pan, mix together sugar and cocoa. Add milk and butter and bring to a boil. Boil 1 full minute.
Remove from heat and allow to cool slightly..about 3 minutes or so. Add vanilla and peanut butter. Stir until peanut butter melts. Stir in oats then drop by spoonfulls onto waxed paper.
Allow to cool.

I like to use slightly less oats to keep the cookies fudgy rather than dry and crumbly.

Hmmm, maybe I have figured it out.

You can see this isn't a photo from today...just used this one for practice. Took me forEVER to figure it out!
