what I am working on

"Scrappy Mountain Majesties" is a free pattern on Bonnie Hunter's website. She has a great tutorial there with the pattern, but here is the general idea.

Cut diagonally, two 8 1/2 inch squares...a light and a dark. Sew together to make half square triangle blocks.

Place one of these blocks face down on top of the other, lights facing darks. Cut 4 two inch strips, cutting through both blocks at once.


Lift the top strips off and turn them face up. Rearrange the strips to look like this.

You can sew 4 strips together to mix and match with other 4 strip units, or sew all 8 strips together for a large rectangular "mountain" block.

Here is how they look in a scrappy combination. Looks like I will be needing 9 or 10 rows of them. Will probably add some reds to perk it up a bit.
These are quick to sew since there is no seam matching. Lots of ironing between steps though.
