what I am reading

Mrs Kennedy and Me by Clint Hill

The Kennedy family fascinates me, more so the women of the family. Maybe it's because I have read more about the Kennedy women and their colorful, glamorous and sometimes tragic and tumultuous lives.  The books about the Kennedy men generally include too much political yadda-yadda that I skim over to get to the scandalous parts.

The author of this book, Clint Hill, was Jackie Kennedy's Secret Service man from the time President Kennedy was elected...until a year after she left the White House following his assassination.

This is the agent seen in the Zapruder film, leaping on and clinging to the back of the limo,
pushing Jackie back into her seat and shielding her with his own body, after the president was shot.

Aside from the chapter covering the events of that tragic day - this book is an enjoyable read. Don't expect to see any trash talk on Jackie as the author greatly respected her and  truly cared about her. It is an interesting glimpse into the life of a secret service agent, but the author knew his audience would mainly want to read about Mrs Kennedy.

One thing that was funny in the book is that, when recounting a particular day or event,  Mr Hill would describe Jackie's outfit! So funny to see this tough guy secret service man describing an empire waist dress with flowing ,chiffon covered sleeves and so forth.
I guess he got so used to women studying Jackie's every wardrobe choice, he thought it should be included in the book.

There are a few black and white photos in the book as well. Would recommend this one.
