last week's quilt block contest

Last week I told you about a fun contest that my quilt group was holding. Those who participated made one quilt block using 2 chunks of fabric that were given out -plus any other fabrics they wished to add.

Here are some of the blocks the ladies came up with...

The floral and the solid peach color are the fabrics that had to be included in the block.  I like the ones that added black...it really shows off the bright colors. There is mine in the photo below on the back left...It looks a little plain laying there next to others.

There were supposed to be 24 total but some ladies either forgot or goofed theirs up.
A few more...

And the winner is...

This one won by two votes. I actually voted for it too...just because of the creativity and careful work that went into it.
The maker cut clumps of flowers from the floral fabric and appliqued them on to a background...along with that bird and birdhouse...and she used fabric paint to add detail. Pretty imaginative!
So, she won all the blocks.
I hope our group does this again next year...it's a good way to get lots of ideas.
